The Taipei International Book Exhibition
Dates for TIBE
04-09 February 2020
The Taipei International Book Exhibition (TIBE) is one of the most vibrant and active book fairs in Asia. TIBE is organised by the Taipei Book Fair Foundation and in its 22 years it has become an annual event of great importance for the publishing world. As a point of entry for international publishers to the broader Asian region, TIBE has successfully built a reputation of being a multi-functional event where writers, publishers and the general public can mingle. Publishers from around the world participate in the TIBE. And the public attend in very large numbers, as can be seen from the following figures for the 2017 event.
Each year, TIBE offers an opportunity for a country to be the Guest of Honour (GOH) at the fair. This opportunity allows the Guest of Honour to showcase their publishing, books and authors, and also their national culture and other elements they select. It is centred on a pavilion within the book fair exhibition, but extends beyond the exhibition halls, and potentially beyond Taipei. Having been supporters of TIBE in recent years, the Publishers Association of New Zealand welcomed the invitation that was extended for New Zealand to become the Guest of Honour in 2015.
The focus of activities was on the TIBE itself, which took place in Taipei from 11 February to 16 February 2015, but activities also took place before and after the fair and around Taiwan. The programme showcased NZ literary, cultural and educational talent as well as our food, beverages, tourism and technology in order to create new audiences and markets for our products. A cultural programme complemented the literary programme.

It is the biggest annual rights fair and both New Zealand and international publishers regard it as the most important book fair in the world to attend. As Guest of Honour at the 2012 Frankfurt Book Fair, New Zealand embraced a unique opportunity to profile its literature, its culture and society to the German public, the German-speaking region and the world’s literary and publishing community. Culminating at the October 2012 Frankfurt Book Fair, a year-long programme of activity throughout Germany showcased New Zealand literature and other art forms, leveraged trade and tourism opportunities and strengthened political ties through cultural diplomacy.
About 20 New Zealand publishers have typically exhibited on the NZ collective stand each year, and the 2012 stand saw an increase to 35 publishers with more than 50 people present. PANZ also hosts a stand party each year, which approximately 200 international guests attend and it is always a very popular event on the Frankfurt calendar. PANZ looks forward to building on the New Zealand presence made at the fair in coming years. Creative New Zealand is our current partner supporting literary publishers at the Frankfurt Book Fair, providing funding for the stand and also assistance for publishers to travel to the fair and exhibit on the stand with Education New Zealand supporting out educational publishers.
