As a trade body for publishers, we're not ideally placed for giving advice on getting published. However, we have prepared some resources which should be helpful.
If you are looking for a publisher for your manuscript, you may be interested in our Member's Directory. Not only does it include each publisher's contact details and key personnel, it also describes the types of work they publish. You can view our Members Directory online here.
If you want to learn how the publishing industry operates in New Zealand, then you may be interested in our book, An Introduction to New Zealand Publishing. It provides an overview of all the stages involved in creating a book and bringing it to market, and explains the various roles within a publishing house. You can view online the Introduction to New Zealand Publishing or you can buy the book as a handy deskside reference. It also includes the PANZ Member Directory.
Most NZ publishers have comprehensive websites and showcase latest publications which can be helpful to see what area of publishing they are involved in. Publishers' websites will generally also give information as to whether they accept unsolicited manuscripts and if they do, how these should be submitted for consideration.
Please don't send us manuscripts as we don't recommend specific publishers and will therefore just return them to you.
It is very worthwhile to join the NZ Society of Authors who are the principal advocates for writers in New Zealand.
