Victoria University Press

Victoria University Press is a major scholarly publisher specialising in New Zealand history and public affairs. The Press is also a leading publisher of fiction and poetry. Founded in the 1970s, Victoria University Press now has a backlist of over 200 books in print, and on average issues twenty five new titles each year.

Random House (NZ) Ltd

The New Zealand division of Random House Inc, Random House (NZ) Ltd publishes under the Vintage, Black Swan, Godwit, Arrow and Random House imprints. Genres include fiction, natural history, cooking, art, design, architecture, gardening, poetry, children’s, biography, business and general New Zealand non-fiction. Random House distributes all Random House and Transworld imprints, as well as books published by Victoria University Press, Longacre Press, New Holland Publishers, Huia Publishers, Te Papa Press, Gecko Press and Hardie Grant. Polygraphia Ltd

Short-run academic publications are a speciality. Polygraphia has a special interest in educational resources for Classical Studies and prepares and publishes books and teaching resources. Polygraphia publishes fiction and non-fiction titles, and a limited number of children’s books. Photographic material is another area of interest – the company produces illustrated books and books of photographs, and high quality prints for display. Many of Polygraphia’s titles are available as ebooks, and the company offers a service to prepare texts for digitising. Polygraphia is a small company able to work professionally while maintaining the personal touch.
 

Penguin Group (NZ)

A division of Pearson, Penguin Group (NZ) produces about 80–100 new books a year under the Penguin, Viking, Raupo and Puffin imprints. These cover a very wide subject range, from literary fiction, history and biography to lifestyle, cookery and children’s books.

New Holland Publishers (NZ) Ltd

New Holland Publishers’ local publishing programme has grown dramatically over the past decade. A division of a multinational book publisher and distributor, HarperCollins Publishers (NZ) Ltd also generates its own exciting and successful New Zealand publishing programme. In addition to handling HarperCollins’ internationally published titles, this large, well-established company represents a number of other local and overseas publishers.

Craig Potton Publishing Ltd

Craig Potton Publishing Ltd is one of New Zealand’s largest independent publishers. The company specialises in quality non-fiction, with an emphasis on high standards of production and a particular interest in photography, natural history, outdoor recreation, reference, biography, New Zealand art and culture, and social and environmental issues. In addition, Craig Potton Publishing is a major publisher of New Zealand calendars.

The Caxton Press

Founded in 1935, The Caxton Press has been both publisher and printer since its inception. The company specialises in non-fiction, including tourist pictorials, alpine and Antarctic calendars, education, local history and human interest titles. The prime focus is on commercial printing, including book design and production –Supreme Award Winner 1998 New Zealand Pride in Print Awards–, with a graphic design studio of seven graphic designers, and a factory that has six printing presses with large-format four-colour capabilities located on site.
