Annabel Langbein is one of New Zealand’s most creative and popular culinary figures. She has self-published 19 cookbooks, which have won numerous international awards, been translated into multiple languages and sold close to two million copies throughout Europe, North America and Australasia.
The first season of her television series Annabel Langbein The Free Range Cook has been broadcast in 83 territories around the world, and a second series is now in production. Both are shot at Annabel’s rustic cabin on the shores of Lake Wanaka in the scenic South Island of New Zealand, where she harvests seasonal crops from her extensive vegetable garden and orchard and uses them as the basis of simple but delicious meals to share with family and friends. Showcasing not only Annabel’s trademark cooking philosophy, but also the stunning natural beauty of her homeland, each episode takes viewers on a journey to meet passionate local food growers and producers and reconnect with a simpler way of life.
The book that accompanies the first series, Annabel Langbein The Free Range Cook, won a coveted Gourmand International Cookbook Award for Best TV Cookbook in 2012. It has been published in New Zealand (by Annabel Langbein Media), Australia (with HarperCollins), the UK (with Octopus), France (with Larousse under the title Annabel au Naturel) and The Netherlands (with Unieboek under the title De Free Range Cook). The German edition (with Graefe und Unzer under the title Naturlich Kochen) and Polish edition (with Publicat) are due for publication in 2012.
